An error message when requesting a bunq card

An error message when requesting a bunq card

It's possible that when requesting a bunq card, you might receive an error message: 'An error occurred while requesting a card.' You'll see this message in an orange bar after you've filled out the application form and are trying to submit it. In this article, we explain how to resolve this issue and proceed with requesting a card.

In the vast majority of cases, this message is caused by one of the following two reasons:
  1. The name on the card is no longer valid.
  2. A character is chosen in the description or feature on the card that is not allowed by bunq.

The name on the card is no longer valid

To request a new card, you also fill in the 'Name on card' field. The names you can choose from here are provided to us from the bunq system.

Sometimes bunq (often for unknown reasons) makes changes to these names. The name you have chosen here to request the card(s) is then no longer up to date. This causes the error message. You can resolve this by clicking on the 'Synchronize' button in the 'Card Management' menu. This will retrieve all the data again from the bunq system. Then click the 'Request new card' button again and fill out the form again. If the available company names are no longer satisfactory, please contact bunq support (partnersupport@bunq.com) to request changes. Once they confirm the changes, press the 'Synchronize' button again.

Visma | ProActive has no control over the company name that can be chosen for the payment cards. Always contact bunq for modification requests and press the 'Synchronize' button in card management when bunq has made any changes.

Allowed characters in the 'Description' field

Not all characters in the 'Description' field are accepted by bunq. Examples of rejected characters are "ë, é, è, ê," and also "ï, á, ñ, ç" are not allowed. Check if there is a character in your description that might be causing the issue. Remove or replace the unusual character and try submitting the form again.

If you have checked the above points (thoroughly) and still cannot request the new card(s), please contact our Support department.
