You can make contactless payments with both a bunq card and a Spend Cloud Card. The limit for contactless payments is the same as when you insert the card into the payment terminal. However, the difference is that you don’t always need to enter a PIN for contactless payments. In this article, we explain when a PIN is required.
When using Apple Pay or Google Pay, you never need to enter a PIN. The reason for this is that you need to unlock your device to use the card. This is a secure way to use the card.
Contactless payments with a Spend Cloud Card
With a Spend Cloud Card, you can make contactless payments up to 50 Euros per transaction without a PIN. If a transaction exceeds 50 Euros, you can still pay contactlessly, but the terminal will ask for your PIN.
For contactless payments under 50 Euros, a combined limit of 150 Euros applies. This means, for instance, that three contactless payments of 40 Euros (totaling 120 Euros) can be made consecutively without entering a PIN. With a fourth payment of 40 Euros, the combined limit of 150 Euros would be exceeded, and a PIN will be requested.
Tip: You can view your PIN with the appropriate permissions via the Spend Cloud App.
Contactless payments with a bunq card
With a bunq card, you can make contactless payments up to €50 per transaction without entering a PIN. If the transaction is over €50, you can still pay contactlessly, but the terminal will ask for your PIN.
