General information Spend Cloud test environment
There can be various reasons to consider requesting a (temporary) Spend Cloud test environment. In this article, we explain why you may (not) need a test environment and share general information about using one.
Why (Not) a Test Environment
First, it’s good to consider why you want to use a test environment and whether it’s truly necessary. Almost all scenarios can be tested in your live environment. Think of an OCI connection, XML invoice field layout, or a connection between your financial software and a new administration. In your live environment, all data is always up to date, whereas a test environment is a snapshot of your live environment at a specific point in time and is not updated afterward. Additionally, your live environment already includes functioning processes such as receiving messages from your own mailbox, integration with your financial software, etc. It is not possible to test transactions within Cash & Card, as no payments can be made from a test environment. By setting up a separate administration or organizational unit (OU) structure in your live environment, you can still test various elements. Lastly, setting up a test environment involves costs, which can be avoided by testing directly in your live environment.
Still want to use a (temporary) test environment? Contact your Visma | ProActive account manager.
Does your organization have a Spend Cloud test environment? Then it’s useful to know the following:
A test environment is a one-time copy of your live environment. This means that when your test environment is created, an exact snapshot is taken, and the data in your test environment will not be updated afterward. Want to update your test environment with a new copy? Contact our support team. Be aware that all changes you made in the test environment will be lost, and you will need to
request a new password to log in.
- It is not possible to send emails from your test environment, such as opinion requests.
- You can forward invoices and contracts to the following addresses:
environmentname@invoice.test.spend.cloud and/or environmentname@contract.test.spend.cloud - Attachments, linked files, and PDFs of invoices, contracts, and orders are not visible and cannot be downloaded from a test environment. However, new invoices or attachments you add will be visible.
- External connections such as OCI links, Single Sign-On, and integrations with your financial package do not function in the test environment. However, setting up an SSO connection or a connection to a test version of your financial package is possible.
- If you and your Visma | ProActive account manager have agreed that the test environment is temporary, it will be automatically deactivated on the agreed date.
- You can log in for the first time using the "I forgot my password" option on the login page. Requesting a temporary password works the same way as in the live environment. See the following article for more information: Logging in and setting your password.

Tip: Adjust your role as an administrator in the test environment to perform actions on behalf of others, or assign yourself as a replacer for a colleague.
