You might encounter an error message, "An error occurred while requesting a card'', displayed in an orange banner after filling out the
bunq card request form and attempting to submit it. This article explains how to resolve this issue and successfully request a card.
In most cases, this error is caused by one of the following two reasons:
- The name on the card is no longer valid.
- A character in the description or reference on the card is not allowed by bunq.
We also offer alternative cards for bunq cards: the Spend Cloud Cards.
Read here all the benefits and how to switch quickly and easily!
Name on the card is Not valid
To request a new card, you fill in the field 'Name on card'. The names available here are retrieved from the bunq system.
Sometimes, bunq makes changes to these names (often for unknown reasons). The name you chose here to request the card(s) is no longer up to date, causing the error. You can resolve this by clicking the 'Synchronize' button in the 'Card Management' menu. This action retrieves all the data again from the bunq system. After that, click the 'Request new card' button again and fill in the form once more. If the available company names are no longer suitable, contact bunq support to request changes. Once they confirm the changes, click the 'Synchronise' button again.
Visma | ProActive has no influence on the company name that can be chosen for the payment cards. Always contact bunq for any modification requests and click the 'Synchronise' button in card management when bunq has made any changes.
Allowed characters in the 'Description' field
Not all characters in the 'Description' field are accepted by bunq. Examples of rejected characters include "ë, é, è, ê," and "ï, á, ñ, ç" are also not allowed. Check if there is a character in your description that might be rejected. Remove or replace the strange character and try submitting the form again.
If you have checked the above points and still cannot request the new card(s), contact our Support department.
