Activating a new Spend Cloud Card as a card user
If you have received a Spend Cloud Card from your organization’s finance department, you may need to activate it yourself. Without activation, the card cannot be used. You can activate the card in the Spend Cloud App or the web version of Spend Cloud. In this article, we explain how to activate a card in the web version.
Activating a new card
If you have received a new Spend Cloud Card, you have likely been designated as the liable cardholder by the finance department. With the appropriate permissions, you can activate the card yourself in Spend Cloud. To do this, navigate to 'Cash & Card' / 'Cards', where you will see an overview of the cards assigned to you. You can identify the card that needs to be activated by the envelope icon.
You only see the cards assigned to you. Are you an admin and want to see all cards? Go to Application Management / Cash & Card / Card Management
Click on the three dots on the right side of the card to activate it.
If you do not see this option, you do not have the correct permissions to activate the card yourself. In that case, the card needs to be activated by the finance department within your organization. Contact them to get this resolved. Information on how the finance department can activate the card can be found
here.
Activating a Spend Cloud Card in the app
You can easily activate your card in the Spend Cloud app. Don’t have the app yet? Click here to read more about how to install the Spend Cloud app, among other things. Open the Spend Cloud app and tap on your card. If you have multiple cards, swipe left to see your other cards. Once you tap the card, you will see two buttons for activation: the Activate Card button and the Start button under the message 'Received a (new) card'. Click the Start button, and the app will guide you through a few steps where your card will be activated, informing you about your payment methods, limits, and, if allowed by your organization, enabling online payments immediately. Using the Activate Card button will also activate your card, and you can view the payment methods and limits in the settings at the bottom of the card. Here, you can also activate online payments for your Spend Cloud Card, if permitted by your organization.
Once the card is activated, with the right permissions, you can also view the card details in the same location, such as the card number, CVC code, and PIN. You can also
temporarily block the card here if, for example, you have lost it or notice suspicious transactions. Read more about viewing card information
here.
If you do not see this option, you do not have the correct permissions to activate the card yourself. In that case, the card needs to be activated by the finance department within your organization. Contact them to get this resolved. Information on how the finance department can activate the card can be found

Activating a replacement card
Activating a Replacement Card If your card is about to expire, your organization can request a replacement Spend Cloud Card. Once you receive it, you can activate it. You can easily activate your new Spend Cloud Card via the Spend Cloud app. Open the app and tap the relevant card. If you have multiple cards, swipe left to see your other cards. Then tap the Activate button under the card. Only do this once you have the new Spend Cloud Card in hand! Once activated, your old card will no longer work, so be sure to destroy it.
When activating a replacement Spend Cloud Card take the following into consideration:
- Information such as the PIN code, card number, payment methods, and limits will remain the same. However, the CVC code will change, which is located on the back of the card and can be viewed in the Spend Cloud app.
- If your current Spend Cloud Card is temporarily blocked, you won’t be able to activate the new card. First, unblock the old card, and then activate the new one. If you don’t have the authority to unblock your card, contact your supervisor or application manager within your organization.
- For the first payment with the replacement card, you must insert the card into the payment terminal and pay using your PIN. After this first successful transaction, contactless payments will be enabled.
- Once your new card is activated, your old card will no longer work. Make sure to destroy the old card.
Want to activate the replacement card in the web version of Spend Cloud? Navigate to the Cash & Card / Cards menu section. Hover your mouse over the card and click on the arrow on the right to activate the replacement card. Please note that the points mentioned above also apply when activating the replacement Spend Cloud Card in the web version.
